Shelves

greenhill gardens—A series of high-level shelving units constructed from Douglas Fir were made for this bedroom in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh. A composition of long thin shelves hug the plaster cornicing around three sides of the room while a smaller unit in the style of a printer’s type tray hangs on the fourth wall above a writing desk. The shelves are reached by standing upon a step/storage box lined with bright yellow felt. Traditional Scandinavian lye was used to finish the timber, bleaching the soft fibrous part of the timber and allowing the grain to stand out in contrast.
