Craig Coulthard

craig coulthard—This piece was a collaboration with Edinburgh based artist Craig Coulthard. After researching the process of repatriation when someone in the military dies overseas Coulthard created an edition of silkscreen prints that he intended to be exhibited in its entirety and therefore required an object to present them appropriately. A mitred oak box was made, lined with a dark grey felt and bound with unbleached linen tapes. This then sat atop a delicate oak framed table with a polished concrete top.

Dimensions: H600 × L1800 × D600 mm

Client quote: “Through discussions with Colin concerning the concept behind the work, we agreed on combining the warmth of felt and solidity of Scottish Oak with the comparative coldness of polished concrete, to create a sense of respectful, yet accepting, commemoration. I was relying on his knowledge and craftsmanship to create a well-made aesthetically considered work and am delighted with the end result…”
